Advances in Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics, Volume 68, provides a comprehensive compilation of recent developments in a field that is in a state of rapid growth, as new experimental and theoretical techniques are used on many problems, both old and new. Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) physics builds on the greatest advances of twentieth century: the development of quantum mechanical description of matter and the invention of the coherent light sources in the form of lasers.

Its central focus is fundamental research on atoms, simple molecules, electrons and light, and their interactions. This is the second of a two-semester subject sequence beginning with Atomic and Optical Physics I (8.421) that provides the foundations for contemporary research in selected areas of atomic and optical physics.
